Naseeruddin Shah Calls Himself a ‘Mental Naxal’, Launches Fresh Attack on Government

Actor Naseeruddin Shah calls himself a “mental Naxal” in a Facebook video, criticises the government over JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, and raises concerns about youth and democracy.

Actor Naseeruddin Shah has once again targeted the government, declaring that he proudly considers himself a “mental Naxal” while accusing the authorities of undermining educational institutions, weakening young people’s morale and putting Indian democracy at risk.

Shah shared a video on his Facebook account on Tuesday in which he criticised the government and referred to the labels allegedly used against people who oppose its policies.

“I proudly say that I am a mental Naxal. The watchman has given people like me all kinds of labels besides mental Naxal, including anti-national, the tukde-tukde gang, and who knows what else,” Shah said in the video.

He went on to accuse the government of being responsible for the divisions it attributes to others. “If there is a tukde-tukde gang in this country, it is this illegitimate government. I want to ask this government one question: What else will you do? How far will you go to break the spirit of the youth of our country, destroy educational institutions and put our democracy in danger? How far will you go, along with the army of fools and dishonest people you have gathered around yourself?” he said.

Shah also referred to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and Jamia Millia Islamia, alleging that students were being subjected to oppression at these institutions.

“First Jawaharlal Nehru University, then the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, and now what is being done to students at Jamia Millia Islamia will be remembered. Everything will be remembered,” he said.

Shah also used abusive language in the video while referring to the media and the BJP IT cell.

Shah Says Youth Will Not Lose Their Courage

Despite what he described as efforts to undermine students and educational institutions, Shah asserted that the morale of the country’s youth would not be broken. He also maintained that educational institutions would not be destroyed and democracy would not be put in danger.

At the end of the video, the actor saluted the country’s youth and said that his prayers were with them.

Shah Had Earlier Called BJP a Party of Lies

Before sharing the Facebook video, Shah had posted another video on his Instagram Story on Saturday. In that video, he alleged that after winning the West Bengal elections, the BJP was taking action against people who disagreed with its ideology and policies.

He also raised the issue of students at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. According to Shah, the students had been seeking answers from the institute’s administration but were instead issued show-cause notices, placed under surveillance and threatened. He further claimed that the students had been asked to vacate their hostels.

The actor also accused the BJP of promoting propaganda in its favour and attempting to intimidate people who disagreed with it or change their thinking.

Shah’s latest remarks continue his public criticism of the government, with his statements focusing on alleged pressure on students, the functioning of educational institutions and the state of democracy in the country.
